Spassky district ( Tat. Spas districts ) is an administrative-territorial unit and municipality ( municipal district ) within the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation . Located in the southwest of the republic.

It has a land border with Alekseevsky , Alkeevsky regions of the republic and with the Ulyanovsk region ( Staromainsky and Melekessky regions). In the Volga ( Kuibyshev reservoir ), it borders with the Tetyushsky , Kama-Ustyinsky districts, and in the Kama (Kuyb. Vkhr.) Water area, it borders with the Laishevsky district.
The administrative center is the city of Bolgar .

Geography
A significant part of the region’s lands was under water as a result of the formation of the Kuibyshev reservoir.
The largest rivers are the Volga, Kama, Abyss , and Aktai .
History
The territory of the district until 1920 was part of the Spassky district , from 1920 to 1930 - in the Spassky canton [2] .
It was founded on August 10, 1930 (from April 1, 1935 to October 4, 1991 - the Kuibyshevsky District).

Economics
In the Spassky district, spring wheat , winter rye , barley , oats , and peas are cultivated . Meat and dairy cattle breeding, pig breeding, horse breeding are developed.

The main roads: 16K-0264 Bolgar- Bazarnaya Mataki and 16K-0196 Tukai-Levashovo departing from it (to Kazan , Chistopol ), 16K-1481 Bolgar- Staraya Mayna (to Ulyanovsk ), 16K-1477 "Antonovka - Kuznechikha - Iske-Ryazap - Forest Khmelevka "(in Dimitrovgrad ).

The regional newspaper “New Life” - “Yana Tormysh” is published in Russian and Tatar languages.
Attractions
- In the village of Izmery there is a monument of archeology Izmere fortification [21] . The Great Moravian Gombik was found at the Izmere village [22] . In 1981-1982, E. P. Kazakov discovered the rapidly collapsing Izmery Paleolithic site, in 1995 - the ancient Ugric Izmery burial ground XII [23] .
- Near the town of Bolgar is the Settlement Bulgar .
