Björn Engholm ( German: Björn Engholm ; born November 9, 1939 , Lübeck ) is a German politician, member of the SPD party, who served as Minister of Education and (for a short period of time) Minister of Agriculture.

In 1987, in the wake of the political scandal with the Barschel case , he was elected Prime Minister of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein .
In 1991, Engholm became chairman of the SPD . Although Engholm was popular with the electorate, in 1993 he was forced to leave all his posts and resign. The re-investigation of the Barschel’s case revealed certain inconsistencies in Engholm's testimony.
