Biography

Born in 1952 in Moscow.

The interest of George Pinkhasov in photography began back in school.

After leaving school, G. Pinkhasov enters VGIK (Moscow Institute of Cinematography), and also works as a photographer at the Mosfilm film studio and then as an independent photographer.

In 1978, Georgy Pinkhasov joined the Moscow Union of Graphic Artists (photography section) and received the status of an independent artist. In the halls on Malaya Gruzinskaya, Garik Pinkhasov shows his first creative work - portraits and still lifes made using the sepia technique (“Melon”, “Glass with Tea” and many others).

His photographs were spotted by prominent Russian film director Andrei Tarkovsky , who invited Georgy Pinkhasov to report on his film Stalker (1979).

In 1985, G. Pinkhasov married a Frenchwoman and moved to Paris.

In 1988, introducing the Tbilisi Baths series of color photographs , he joined an associate member of the photographers of the Magnum Photo Agency, founded by the legendary Henri Cartier-Bresson . Since 1990, a full member of the agency.

He works regularly for the international press, especially for Geo, Actuel and the New York Times. His book Sightwalk explores individual details through reflection or specific forms of light, often approaching abstraction.
