Rafael Alberti ( Spanish: Rafael Alberti ; December 16, 1902 , El Puerto de Santa Maria near Cadiz - October 27, 1999 , El Puerto de Santa Maria ) - Spanish poet and playwright of the 20th century, laureate of the International Lenin Prize “For the consolidation of peace between nations” (1965).

Life and His Work

Alberti in his youth began as an artist, later turned to poetry. The first book of poems - "Sailor on Land", appeared in 1924 . In 1925, the young poet was awarded the National Literature Award. In these years, R. Alberti creates works that are similar in spirit to the avant-garde and surrealism . In 1927 he became one of the founders of the literary movement Generation 27 years .

In 1931, R. Alberti joined the Communist Party of Spain . In 1934 , together with his wife Maria Teresa Leon, he was present in Moscow as a guest at the First Congress of Soviet Writers . During the Civil War in Spain in 1936 - 1939, his pen in the service of the Republicans praises the fight against fascism . After the defeat of the Republic, the poet emigrated, first lives in France (1939-1940), and then, until 1977, in Argentina . In 1977 , after the death of Franco , he returned from political emigration to his homeland. Soon after returning, he is elected as a deputy from Cadiz, representing the Communists. In 1981, R. Alberti was awarded the National Theater Prize, in 1983 - Cervantes Prize . In 1995, he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Valencia .

R. Alberti has been a great friend of Russia and the Soviet Union all his life. The poet came to the USSR three times - in 1932 , 1934 and in 1964 . In 1965, he was awarded the International Lenin Prize "For the consolidation of peace between peoples . "
