Biography
Born on January 14, 1915 in Tsaritsyn in a working class family. Russian .
In 1929 he graduated from the 7th grade and in 1932 - the school of factory apprenticeship in Stalingrad .
Service in the Red Army before World War II

In 1937 he graduated from the Stalingrad Military Aviation School of Pilots .
He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 as a pilot- bomber, commander of an aviation unit .
World War II
During the Great Patriotic War , from June 1941 to September 1944 , Efremov was the commander of the air link, deputy commander and commander of the air squadron of the 10th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment . He participated in battles on the South-Western , Stalingrad , 4th Ukrainian and 3rd Byelorussian fronts.
In the battles for his native Stalingrad, Efremov made 198 combat sorties, destroyed 5 railway trains, 15 vehicles with military cargo, 11 aircraft and many other military equipment. During the battle of Stalingrad, he had to take off and fight several times a day.
By February 1943, the squadron commander of the 10th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment ( 270th Bomber Aviation Division , 8th Air Army , Southern Front ) Guards Captain Efremov made 293 combat sorties on the bombing of clusters of manpower and combat equipment of the enemy.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 1, 1943, for exemplary performance of combat missions in enemy bombardment and reconnaissance and the heroism and bravery shown to him, Vasily Sergeyevich Yefremov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 733).
The crew of the aircraft under the command of V.S. Efremov destroyed 32 enemy aircraft at airfields and 4 in aerial combat.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 24, 1943, Captain Efremov Vasily Sergeevich was awarded the second Gold Star medal for 340 successful combat missions of the Guard.
After the war
In 1949 , after graduating from the Military Air Academy , Lieutenant Colonel V. S. Efremov served as deputy commander of the air regiment, then as a test pilot . He mastered flights on many types of aircraft in various meteorological conditions.
Since 1960, Colonel V. Efremov - in stock, and then - retired.
The renowned air fighter was entrusted with the highest honor of carrying the torch with the Eternal Flame to Mamaev Kurgan during the grand opening of the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad ensemble.
By the decision of the Volgograd City Council of People's Deputies of May 7, 1980, "For special services shown in the defense of the city and defeating the German fascist troops in the Battle of Stalingrad," Vasily Sergeyevich Efremov was awarded the title " Honorary Citizen of the Hero-City of Volgograd ."
The honored veteran lived in the capital of Ukraine - the hero city of Kiev , where he died on August 19, 1990 . According to the will, he was buried in Volgograd , on Mamaev Kurgan.
