Origin
By blood, Lucius Ver belonged to the Etruscan family of Ceyoniev . His great-grandfather Lucius Tseiony Commodus under the emperor Vespasian received a consulate (in the year 78) and was included in the patriciate ; the grandfather who bore the same name was consul at Trajan in 106 [1] . The representative of the next generation, Ceyoniev, was adopted by Emperor Hadrian in 136 and after that received the name Lucius Eli Caesar . He could inherit authority over the empire from his adoptive father, but he died very early (January 1, 138).
According to Eli Spartian , Lucius Eli Caesar was married to the daughter of Guy Avidius Nigrin - an influential senator who was executed on charges of attempting to kill Adrian in 118 [2] . But one inscription calls the daughter of Nigrin aunt Lucius Vera by her father, and not by her mother; this may mean that Lucius Elius was not a son-in-law, but a stepson of Nigrin (the latter could marry his mother after the death of Lucius Ceyonius Commodus Jr.) [1] .
