The armored train was protected by armor with a thickness of 20-45 millimeters and for the entire war did not receive a single hole. The armored train traveled from Murom to Frankfurt an der Oder . During the war, he destroyed the German armored train, 7 aircraft , 14 guns and mortar batteries, 36 enemy firing points , 875 soldiers and officers .

Each covered armored area is armed with two 76.2 mm F-34 cannons in the towers of the T-34 tanks. In addition to the 7.62 mm DT machine guns coaxial with the guns, the armored areas had 4 7.62 mm Maxim machine guns in ball bearings in the sides - two on each side. The open anti-aircraft mortar sites initially had 2 76 mm Lender anti-aircraft guns front and rear, and in the central compartment along the M-8-24 launcher M-8 with 24 guides. For military services, the 31st separate special Gorky division of armored trains , which included the Ilya Muromets and Kozma Minin armored trains, was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky . [four]
It was decided to give the armored train the name of the legendary hero Ilya Muromets. However, Colonel Neplyuyev, who had come to "pick up" the armored train, had his own name for him: " For Homeland ." The builders of the armored train organized a rally at which they expressed a decision to drive the armored train to the front of the Murom brigade, and offered their name. Thus, at a rally on February 8, before sending the armored train to the front, the audience saw on its board the inscription “Ilya Muromets” and the image of the hero’s head. The inscription and drawing were ordered to be painted over, and assigned to the combat vehicle No. 2. But his name remained in the documents and in the minds of the builders and crew .
Ilya Muromets met the victory fifty kilometers from Berlin , since the destroyed bridge over the Oder prevented further travel to Berlin. [five]
In 1971, an armored steam locomotive was put into eternal parking.
