Oldehov - this is a barrow, on the site of which in the 9th century stood the Catholic Church of St. Witt . The construction of the modern tower began in 1529 , after the inhabitants of Leeuwarden wanted their bell tower of St. Witt to be higher than the bell tower of St. Martin in neighboring Groningen . During construction, the tower hull began to tilt, they tried to compensate for the roll by adding bricks, but this did not help, and in 1532 (according to other sources in 1533 ) the construction was stopped. The height of the tower is 40 meters.
