Biography
The younger brother of Lieutenant-General Stepan and Pavel Matveyevich and Major General Ivan Matveevich , was born in the 1740s. In 1761 he entered the Cadet Naval Cadet Corps . May 1, 1767 was made in midshipmen and annually sailed in the Baltic Sea .
On June 25, 1770, he was promoted to midshipman and on the ship Vsevolod, in the squadron of Rear Admiral Arf , moved from Kronstadt to the Archipelago , where he cruised in 1771-1774, and on November 24, 1773 he received the rank of lieutenant.
In 1775, Rzhevsky commanded the frigate "Constance" on a raid in Livorno , on February 15, 1776 he was appointed adjutant to his uncle, Vice Admiral A.N. Senyavin , and, commanding the same frigate in the detachment of captain Kozlyaninov , sailed to the Dardanelles . In 1777 he went from Livorno to Messina , to Tangier , and in 1779 he returned with his frigate to Kronstadt.
January 1, 1782 promoted to captain of the 2nd rank. In 1783 he was in Arkhangelsk , and on January 1, 1784 he was dismissed from service with the rank of captain of the 1st rank.
Living then in his estates in the Oryol province , on January 18, 1790 he was appointed chairman of the Oryol Upper Zemsky Court of the 1st Department. In 1797 he was a state adviser and chairman of the Oryol Chamber of Court and Reprisal.
On January 30, 1797 he was appointed Minsk Vice-Governor, on August 9, 1799 he was promoted to full state councilor, and on December 23 of the same year he was appointed Novgorod Civil Governor .
On October 28, 1800, he was fired, upon request, from service, with the production of secret advisors and with a full pay pension. Living, after retiring from the fleet, in Orel , Rzhevsky was in the Masonic lodge under the direction of the Oryol vice-governor Z. Y. Karneev .
In 1812, shortly before the French entered Moscow, Rzhevsky finished a wooden house in the Arbat part, then left for his estate in Mtsensk , from where in February 1813 he asked the Moscow deanery deanery for damages incurred from the burning and plunder of his house.
The time of death of Rzhevsky is unknown.
Family
His son Konstantin (born 1783), being promoted to major, was killed on January 21, 1831 during the Polish uprising ; the grandson, Vladimir Konstantinovich , living in the Mtsensk estate, was familiar with I. S. Turgenev [1] .
