Story

Harry Dunn, a guy who studied all his life at home, finally gets the opportunity to go to a real ordinary school. At the same time, another funny guy named Lloyd Christmas is leaving the school where he lives with his cleaning father (he leaves especially in the morning, so that later, like everyone else, to go there). On the way, the characters collide with each other and as a result of this fateful event, they become best friends (Harry says that the school has hidden treasures that need to be found). Upon arrival, Lloyd first introduces Harry to his “friend” Tark, who first stuffs Lloyd in a trash can and then hangs both friends on a flagpole.

Meanwhile, the corrupt principal of Collins School is thinking about how to easily cut down as much money as possible and buy property near Waikiki Beach ( Honolulu , Hawaiian Islands ). After seeing how two morons hang out on a flagpole, he decides to create a “specially-oriented class”, for the presence of which funding of $ 100 thousand from the city budget is supposed. Lloyd and Harry alone are not enough, and he instructs them to find more “special” students for the group. Friends begin the search, and after a while many students decide to join the class, including:

  • the same bully Tark,
  • a popular guy among girls, Toby (who broke his leg while riding a skateboard );
  • the eccentric Lewis ( whom Lloyd and Harry consider the centaur because they saw him in a horse costume );
  • Ching-Chong (an Asian student who came to America for an exchange and became a girl Tarka );
  • Karl ( a football player with a headache who is completely obsessed with his sport ) and
  • Terry (Toby's glamorous girlfriend).

While the group was gathering, the smart student Jessica unraveled the director’s cunning plan and asked Harry to collect additional information about him. Harry, who decided that the girl was flirting with him, turned to Lloyd for help with courtship. During the so-called “date” in the bathroom of Jessica, a repulsive disaster occurs [ what? ] , melted chocolate greatly frightens her father (who thinks that everything is smeared not in chocolate, but in human feces ). After this incident, the girl draws attention to Lloyd. Soon, friends begin to fight over her, although she does not even know about it, as a result, they quarrel completely.

After some time, the heroes understand that they cannot exist without each other, and reconcile (having gone for Director Treasury’s office for a “treasure chest”). A “special” class is being asked to make a mock-up for the parade on President’s Day. But instead of George Washington, they portray their director (in the guise of a pirate) and during the parade themselves include a recording of the conversation about the appropriation of budget money. The police arrest Collins before he has time to escape, and Lloyd and Harry become heroes.

In the end (just like in the original film), it turns out that Jessica already has a beloved guy, and from the very beginning friends did not have the slightest chance. Harry and Lloyd decide never to quarrel again and not risk friendship over a woman. Before the final credits, two girls in a cool car offer friends to go with them to a party, but they reject their offer. Harry also stains with dirt the car of Jessica's father, who again decides that it is feces .

Creation History

It was originally planned that the actors of the original film “Dumb and Dumber” by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels would take part in the filming, and the creators of South Park Trey Parker and Matt Stone , who even paid a fee of $ 1.5 million, would shoot the film. But soon they abandoned the project and returned the money to New Line Cinema [2] , and Troy Miller had to shoot, who previously shot only clips for MTV.

Most of the filming was conducted in the city of Atlanta ( Georgia ). Almost all school scenes were shot at the George Walton School ( Marietta City) and the Atlanta International School ( Fulton County ).

Reviews and criticism

On the Rotten Tomatoes website , “Dumb and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd” he scored only 10% of “freshness” (12 fresh tomatoes and 103 rotten were thrown) [3] . Wesley Morris, a respected film columnist for The Boston Globe , wrote that “it’s better to stay at home, put out old comic book magazines, talk with parents or watch the paint dry than watch Dumb and Dumber” [4] .

Another film critic, James Berardinelli, did not give the film a single star out of four possible, saying that

"This is the most unbearable sequel of all time,"

and also that

“Typically, Hollywood waits for August before expelling all the accumulated slag on the viewer. This year broke through too soon. And not a single film was so similar to dirty sewage sewage like this one ” [5] .
