Astral Sternu Tarantoga ( Polish Astral Sternu Tarantoga ) is a fictional character, cosmosoologist and inventor, the hero of many works by Polish writer Stanislav Lem . The companion of Iion the Pacific . In books is a man. In the cartoon “From the Diaries of Iyon the Pacific. Journey to Interopia ”is a Fomalhautian (a creature with four upper tentacles and some lower ones that the robe hides). In the series “Iyon Quiet: A Space Pilot”, it is a three-eyed and two-legged humanoid who lost his hand during experiments with teleportation. The writer's idea pushed A.S. Tarantoga with unusual situations, unusual people (and other creatures) and serious problems of a universal scale.
The works on the Tarantoga are written with irony , they parody literary and cinematic cliches of science fiction , and serious issues of science , sociology , and philosophy are touched on. For example, in the play “The Journey of Professor Tarantoga ”, among other things, the paths of the development of human civilization are examined - on the example of other alien creatures very similar to humans.

In these books, the Tarantoga is a collective image of a scientist performing feats of science, easily moving around the Universe, communicating with intelligent (and not so) creatures. In addition, according to the idea of Stanislav Lem , Tarantoga is the only person thanks to whom the works of Iyon the Pacific were published.
From the so-called. cycle “Four Pieces about Professor Tarantoga” (in parentheses are the years of the first publication in the original language and in Russian):
- “The Journey of Professor Tarantoga ” ( 1963 , 1964 );
- The Black Room of Professor Tarantoga (1963, 1968 );
- “The strange guest of Professor Tarantoga ” (1963, 1965 );
- " Reception hours of Professor Tarantoga " ( 1975 , 1987 ).
In these plays, the image of Tarantoga is more realistic, here he is almost a contemporary of Stanislav Lem . The tarantoga lives in Poland , conducts experiments, makes incredible discoveries, is engaged in science for the sake of science.
