District 1924-1930
It was founded in 1924 on the territory of the former Kerkin province of the Turkmen Autonomous Republic of Bukhara NDS .
Initially, it was divided into 4 tumens : Kerkinsky, Kizyl-Ayaksky, Halachsky, Khojambass.
In January 1925, instead of the Tumen , 6 districts were formed: Kelifsky , Kerkinsky , Kizyl-Ayaksky , Tashrabad , Halachsky , Khodzhambassky . At the end of the year, Karluk district was formed.
In August 1926, the Kelif and Tashrabad districts were abolished, and the Charshanginsky district was created.
The district was abolished in July 1930, like most districts of the USSR. The districts were transferred directly to the Turkmen SSR.
According to the 1926 census, the population was 128.3 thousand people. Including Turkmens - 81.5%; Uzbeks - 13.9%; Russians - 3.0%.
District 1933-1939
The district was again formed in February 1933 as a border district (which were then created along the borders of the USSR).
Included 7 districts: Burdalyk , Karlyuk, Kerkinsky, Kizyl-Ayak, Halachsky, Khojambass, Charshanginsky.
It was abolished in November 1939 due to the introduction of regional division in the Turkmen SSR.
