Marr also does not object to the reunification of the group, recognizing that the responsibility for its disintegration lies with him. Johnny is sure that the return of The Smiths would make a huge number of people happy [1] . In 2013 released the solo album The Messenger.
In 2013, he won the NME Godlike Genius Award as “not stopping to rewrite the history of music with one of the best bands of all time, The Smiths, he continued to expand boundaries and develop throughout his career, working with the best musicians on the planet” [2] . He took 4th place among the best guitarists in the last 30 years in a survey conducted by the BBC in 2010 [3] . Phil Alexander, editor-in-chief of Mojo , described Marr as “perhaps the last great British stylish guitar player” [4] .

Childhood
John Martin Mar was born in 1963 in Ardwick - a district of Manchester . His family moved to Whitenshaw in 1972. Since 1975, he attended the St. Augustine Catholic Gymnasium, which in 1977 teamed up with other schools to form St. John Plessington High School. Mar wanted to become a professional footballer. He formed his first band, The Paris Valentinos, at age 13, with Andy Rourke and Calvin Williams (who later became an actor known as Calvin Kennedy), the first time they performed at an anniversary concert in Benchill in July 1977, playing covers on Rolling Stones and Thin Lizzy. In 1979, Marr played a concert at the Wythenshawe Forum along with Sister Ray and Rourke already under the name White Dace. The White Dace went through an NME demo contest and won an audition for F-Beat Records, which they participated in in April 1980 but were never recorded. In October 1980, Johnny entered Wizenshaw College and acted as president of the School Student Union. White Dace broke up in 1981. Marr and Rourke formed a funky band, The Freak Party, with Simon Wolfencroft on drums. At this time, Marr first meets Matt Johnson, with whom he will continue to collaborate.
Personal life
Marr does not fit into the typical notions of a rock musician. He is married to his high school girlfriend Angie. They started dating when Johnny was fifteen and Angie was fourteen. The couple celebrate their birthdays on the same day, October 31. They got married in 1985, Morrissey was the best man at the wedding, and The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke was a witness. Johnny and his wife have two children, son Neil (also a musician, performs under the name Man Made) and daughter Sonny. Interestingly, both children participated in the recording of the father's solo album The Messenger (2013). The family lived in Portland for more than 5 years, but then returned to England so that Marr would record his solo album in Manchester.
Johnny is an honorary member of the Rock for Kids Council. A non-drinking vegan runs regularly. On July 19, 2012, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford for “outstanding achievements” [5] and “changing the face of British guitar music”. Marra has six tattoos, which he did already in adulthood.
Guitars
Marr has used various guitars throughout his career, but here are his most notable instruments:
Fender Jaguar - he played Jaguar since 2005, and in 2012 Fender released The Johnny Marr Signature Fender Jaguar, the modification included a 1954 Stratocaster body and neck.
Rickenbacker 330 - This guitar is most often associated with Johnny Marr due to its sharp sound characteristic of Marr's playing style. He played it on The Smiths, and she can also be seen in the "Vivid" commercial from Electronic. He also has the Rickenbacker 360, previously owned by Pete Townshed.
Gibson Les Paul - Marr has several of them, including the rare 1959 model. His dark red Les Paul was acquired in 1984 and was widely used in The Smiths, appearing in the Dogs of Lust video. He currently added the Bigsby tremolo to this guitar. He gave his Les Paul Sunburst (also previously owned by Pete Townshed) to Noel Gallagher during the formation of Oasis.
Gibson ES-355 - His cherry red model was often used at The Smiths in 1984 and prompted Suede guitarist Bernard Butler and Noel Gallagher to buy the same. It was bought for Marra by Seymund Stein in New York as an incentive for The Smiths to sign up for his label, Sire Records. Johnny also has a black model that appears in Electronic Forbidden City and For You music videos, and a 12-string sunburst that was used on The Smiths, Strangeways, Here We Come .
Fender Telecaster - Just like Rickenbacker, this guitar is associated with The Smiths, this Telecaster (owned by band producer John Porter) has been featured on several Smiths songs, including “This Charming Man”.
Gibson SG - Marr used the cherry red SG as his primary model when playing with The Healers. He also has his own unique white SG.
Amplifiers
Marr has been using Fender amplifiers almost always throughout his career. In addition to them, while working with The Smiths, he used Twin Reverb, Reverb Deluxe and Bassman. Also used Fender Champ along with The The and The Cribs. While playing with The Cribs, I used Super Reverb. Marra's love for the sound of Fender amps continues to this day with his Deluxe Reverb. He used other amplifiers, including the Roland JC-120, Vox AC30, Mesa Boogie, and Marshall cabinets.
