Qalyub ( Arabic: قليوب ) - a city in Egypt , located in the governorate of Qalyubiya , the name of the city received all the governorship. It is located north of Cairo , in the very south of the Nile Delta . The population of 108,860 inhabitants ( 2006 ) [1] .

Qalyub is a shopping center for a large agricultural area. Here is the printing house of the Al-Ahram newspaper . They say that it was built using materials from ancient Heliopolis , located several kilometers away.
On February 13, 2005 , a mass political strike took place in Kalyub demanding benefits and privatization of the Kalyub spinning company.
In August 2006, a major railway disaster occurred in Kalyub, in which 58 people died [2] .

Qalyub is also the center of the district with a population of 400,269 people ( 2002 ). The area of the district is 1158.7 km².
