Biography

Siegfried Lenz was born into the family of a customs officer . Lenz was one of the most famous contemporary authors of novels and short stories of German literature after World War II . One of his major works is the novel Deutschstunde (German Lesson) published in 1968 . In it, Lenz - like other authors (including Heinrich Böll and Gunter Grass ) - critically examines the question of Germany under Hitler’s rule during World War II.

In March 2009, Lenz was awarded the Leo Kopelev Prize, with which he had long-standing friendship. [6]
