History

The manufacture of the first BREM-84 on the basis of the T-80UD tank [1] was carried out by KhKBM named after A. A Morozova [4] with the participation of the Zaporozhye electric locomotive repair plant Iskra [5] .

Demonstration model BREM-84 was built in 1997 [6] and shown in 2000 at the DSA-2000 weapon exhibition in Malaysia.

In 2007, the BREM-84 entered the state testing phase [7] .

November 24, 2008 ARV-84 was officially adopted by the Ukrainian army [8] . In December 2008, tests of the first sample continued. The cost of production of one ARV was estimated at 4 million hryvnia [9] .

On September 1, 2011, Thailand signed a contract with Ukrspetsexport Group for the manufacture and sale of 49 T-84 Oplot tanks and two BREM-84 tanks for the Thai armed forces [10] ; further, BREM-84 continued to be offered for export to other foreign customers [1] [11] .

Description

BREM is designed to prepare for the evacuation and towing of damaged samples of armored vehicles and equipment, welding, excavation, transportation of spare parts and consumables weighing up to 1.5 tons (cargo weighing up to 1.5 tons is carried out on a flat platform on the roof aft of the machine body) [13] .

Layout “Athlete” is divided into three compartments - an inhabited compartment for the crew, an engine compartment (with the main winch , gear reducers and tanks of the fuel system and hydraulic drive), and a motor-transmission compartment (in which a multi-fuel liquid-cooled diesel engine is installed) [2 ] .

On the fenders on the outside there are compartments of the auxiliary power unit with welding equipment and a cooling system, hydraulic panels of the attached equipment, auxiliary winch and battery compartment, as well as fuel system tanks [2] . On the left shelf there are boxes for equipment and tools, on the right supraharmonic shelf in the stowed position there is a crane arrow [13] .

The BREM crew consists of three people - the driver, the commander and the specialist fitter [13] .

BREM is equipped with a crane with a lifting capacity of 25 tons, two winches (the main one with a pulling force of up to 250 kN and the auxiliary one with a pulling force of 900 kg) and the auxiliary power unit D-120 with a capacity of 30 hp [13] .

The chassis of the BREM "Athlet" is completely identical to the T-84U "Oplot" tank. The caterpillar mover has 7 rubberized road wheels, 3 rubberized support rollers, a rear driving and front steering wheels on each side [13] .
