Takamatsu ( 高 松 市 Takamatsu-si ) is the central city of Japan , the administrative center of Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku , a large port in the Inland Sea of Japan . On September 26, 2005 and January 10, 2006, Takamatsu was expanded to include the villages of Sionoe, Mure, Aji, Kagawa, Konan and Kokubunji. The area of the city is 375.14 km² [1] , the population is 420 729 people (August 1, 2014) [2] , the population density is 1121.53 people / km².

History and Tourism
The settlement officially received city status on February 15, 1890 . Takamatsu has been and has remained the political and economic center of the region since the Edo period, when the rulers of the Matsudaira dynasty made it the capital of their possessions.
With the opening of the Big Seto Bridge, trains run from Takamatsu to Uno (Tamano, Okayama).
The main attraction of Takamatsu can be considered Ritsurin Park - a beautiful garden, founded during the Edo period . There are several museums in Takamatsu: the Kagawa Prefectural Museum and its branch The Folk History Museum of the Inland Sea of Japan . In Takamatsu, there is Mount Goken (Yakuri), on which the Yakuri-ji Temple is located . In the Yashima area, Yashima -ji Temple and the Shikoku-mura Open Air Museum are located.
Transport
Takamatsu is a seaport. Takamatsu port is connected by ferry lines to various ports and islands of the Inland Sea of Japan . There is a JR group rail station. Takamatsu is also the center of the network of the local private railway company Kotoden , whose lines connect Takamatsu with the cities of Kotohira and Sanuki . There is a tourist funicular line on Mount Goken .
Sport
The city is based on the Kamatamare Sanuki football club.
Culture
Since 2010, Takamatsu has been one of fourteen locations (twelve islands and two coastal cities) where the Triennale Setouti International Festival of Contemporary Art is held.
