Frenulotomy (from Lat. Frenulum - bridle and other Greek. Τομή - cutting) - surgical dissection of the frenum of the foreskin . Also used in dentistry with shortened frenulum of the lips and tongue.
Frenulotomy is resorted to with a congenital short bridle, accompanied by difficulties and pain during intercourse , its frequent tears and ruptures with bleeding . With a shortened frenulum of the tongue, speech disturbance is observed. Due to the shortened frenulum of the lips, gum recession or diastema may develop.
The bridle is cut in the middle in the transverse direction to a depth of 0.5 cm and the edges of the resulting wound are connected along the penis with 2-3 interrupted sutures. As a result of the longitudinal direction of the seam line, the frenulum lengthens.
