Organization of the protection of the people's struggle

The organization of the protection of the people's struggle ( Greek Οργάνωση Περιφρούρησης Λαϊκού Αγώνα-OPLA ) is the Greek city ​​guerrilla organization of the Communist Party of Greece , created at the last stage of the liberation of Greece during the Second World War .

The organization operated in cities and its goal was to protect members of the National Liberation Front and related groups, trade unions , parties and movements from German troops and special services and the collaboration police and security battalions. Nevertheless, the organization’s activities were not limited only to protection, but it also took part in the extermination of opponents of the KKE on both sides of the political spectrum: from Trotskyists and archaeomarksists to monarchists . As a result, the Organization for the Protection of the People's Struggle and its activities remain the subject of heated debate even today.

The organization took an active part in the December events of 1944 in Athens and in the outbreak of civil war , in particular in Thessaloniki in 1946 - 1947 . One of the most famous actions of the OPLA was the assassination of Justice Minister Christos Ladas on May 1, 1948 in Athens.
