Biography and Creativity
He graduated from the Faculty of History of the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen, lives in Petersburg .
He is the author of seven books of poems, publications in the magazines Zvezda , Vozdukh , Twilight , Zinziver, Almanacs of The New Chamber of Preservation, etc. Igor Bulatovsky is a regular author of the site New Luggage . The poetics of Bulatovsky goes back to some late poems of Vladislav Khodasevich : a minimum of means, a subtle transfer of intonation (whether it be spoken or internal) Bulatovsky expresses the existential loneliness of the lyrical “me”. A peculiarity of Bulatovsky prosody is the sophisticated variations of syllabic-tonic meters. Winner of the Zvezda magazine award for a series of essays ( 2001 ). Winner of the Hubert Burda Prize for Young Poets of Eastern Europe ( 2005 ). Poems by I. Bulatovsky were translated into German and Finnish.
The main activity of Bulatovsky-translator is poetry in Yiddish . The translation of the book by I. Manger “The Interpretation of Itzik on the Pentateuch” ( 2003 ), especially significant, was continued by the Book of Paradise by the same author, translated with Valery Dymshits ( 2008 ). Together with the same co-author, two books of the prose of Isroel-Yeshua Singer ( 2011 ) and the collection of five Jewish poets “Paper Bridges” ( 2012 ) were translated. In addition, Bulatovsky translated the poetry of Paul Verlaine , composing the book “Saturnian verses. Gallant festivities. Songs without words ”(St. Petersburg., 2001 ), - a feature of this work is an attempt to convey the difference between the French poetic meter and the Russian syllabic and tonic; The development of this work was the bilingual edition of 2005 (Paul Verlaine, “Three Poems”, M .: Rainbow), prepared jointly with Georgy Kosikov and Ekaterina Belavina, where Bulatovsky is also one of the authors of a detailed commentary. A monograph by Leonid Geller and Michel Nike “Utopia in Russia” (2003) was also translated from French by Bulatovsky.
Together with A. B. Ustinov, Igor Bulatovsky prepared two books of poems of the poet of the early 20th century, Vasily Komarovsky, for publication. Together with Boris Roginsky (under the common pseudonym Rein Karasti ) he published in the journal Zvezda a series of essays on literature of the 20th century, which compiled the collection “Man behind a Curtain” ( 2004 ).
In December 2013, he signed a collective appeal of Russian writers in support of Euromaidan [1] .
