The distant future of the human race, which is successfully expanding in space thanks to independently developed technology and artifacts found, presumably belonging to the extinct intelligent race of the so-called Masters. Technical development is at a high level, hyper-transition is open, medicine is able to extend the active life of a person up to two hundred years or more, the degree of study of the human body allows you to remove different types of memory from the human brain, make full-fledged human clones , etc. Most planets are united into called the League, whose government uses both the military and police forces of the VKS and the so-called Guard. The Guard is an elite interplanetary special forces and rescue service at the same time. Organized crime in the League is also interplanetary, it is a yakuza that has crushed or destroyed other criminal organizations.
The book is supposedly a memoir of the protagonist, used many hundreds of years later in the political program of the government.
Story
The Guard Service had to cope with several problems at the same time - the elusive maniac Grissom, internal intrigues and the aggressive representative of an alien race, found by an archaeological expedition on one of the planets. A former analyst, and now an operative of the Guard, Max Sobolevsky and his comrades, led by the Colonel, are trying to deal with these problems, later called the Third Crisis.
Heroes
