Tobit and Anna, a painting by Rembrandt
He was distinguished by righteousness in his native country and did not leave a pious lifestyle in captivity in Nineveh . For his good deeds to the suffering tribesmen, he was persecuted by the Assyrian government and generally survived a number of trials, including blindness, which ended for him and his posterity with the complete blessing of God. His son, Tobias , healed him with the help of an angel.
