Descendants of Issachar
When Jacob moved to Egypt from Issachar, a knee occurred, which, according to the Exodus from Egypt at Sinai , consisted of 54,400 men capable of carrying arms, and before crossing the Jordan it increased to 64,300 men ( Numbers 1:29 ; 26:25 ). During the division of the conquered Canaan, the tribe of Issachar was allotted to its northern part, which included the fertile Ezdrilon (Jezreel) valley and Mount Tabor ( Nav. 19:22 ). Later, this territory was part of the Galilee .
In modern studies, it has been suggested that the union of Zebulun and Issachar (which, according to Genesis , Leah gave birth to, buying the right to spend the night with Jacob from Rachel for mandrake fruits ) reflected the actual resettlement of the respective tribal groups.
In the subsequent story, Issachar’s tribe did not play an outstanding role.
