Story
Sergei returns to the apartment, which the Kakhovskys shared with the Lesnikovs family. It turns out that the Kakhovskys have already received a new apartment, where they moved. The Lesnikovs went to the cinema and only their daughter Natasha, a friend of Seryozha, was from home from early childhood. Sergei tells her about his adventures, and Natasha told him about the new pioneer club Espada, which opened in an old house on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street. A chevron embroidered on a shirt with the proud name “ESPADA” does not allow him to show weakness, to deviate from his ideals.
A newcomer comes to the club - a quiet fifth-grader Mitya Koltsov, and Seryozha gives him the first fencing lessons. Soon Mitya became the winner of the club fencing competition. True, Oleg Moskovkin, the head of the club, sees that Seryozha, who had more experience, deliberately lost to him in the final battle. To the question of Oleg Seryozha he answers: "he needs it." On the same day, it was decided to appoint Seryozha as captain of the fifth group.
On the way home, Mitya and three others were met by hooligans and removed navy belts from Mosin, Golovanov and Sentsov, who had no resistance. Only Mitya did not want to give the Espada belt. The older boys run away, and Mitya breaks free and calmly leaves.
This story becomes the first indirect encounter of Seryozha with real enemies. He cannot understand why one Mitya was bolder than the three older guys. The council assembled on the same day unanimously decides to drive cowards from the club, and Seryozha reflects on what happened: how he would behave in such a situation. Oleg in a conversation with Sergei says that the matter is not limited to 3 cowards. There are other guys who will do the same in a similar situation. Here, Oleg’s pedagogical failure is clearly indicated - the primacy of the formal side when creating the detachment.
Once, a 2nd-grade teacher, Nelly Ivanovna, left the whole class in the evening to find out who broke the window. In this class, Stasik Grachev studied - an occasion of constant conflicts between Seryozha and Nelly Ivanovna. Seryozha decided to wait for Stasik to escort him home, as he was afraid to walk alone along the dark streets.
In one of the lanes Serezha, Stasik and second-grader Valera - met a company of four hooligans, who began to demand money from them. Despite the fear, Seryozha firmly knew that he would not give up without a fight, especially since the kids were with him. But the fear goes away when Seryozha finds out in one of the hooligans a recent club friend Sentsov. During a squabble with hooligans, one of them hits Seryozha hard in the face, he flies off to the front garden and feels sharp fence rails with his back. Remembering Oleg’s instructions that in the hands of a swordsman any stick becomes a formidable weapon, Seryozha disperses the rail from the fence of the attackers and then an adult appears nearby - a bandit Gavrilov nicknamed Gavrik.
Gavrik took out a knife and Seryozha reacts with lightning speed - he knocks a knife with a staff that sticks into a wooden post. Seryozha beats Gavrik on his knees when suddenly spotlights hit from three sides - the police arrived in time for which Valera managed to escape.
The next day, my father, guessing about Seryozha’s doubts about his own courage, said: “And now you, at least, know that you haven’t been scared. In general, it was your high point. " Seryozha was thanked, a gift from the police was presented. But the most expensive award was presented at the club - a real personalized sword. A newspaper note was made about the exploit of the sixth grader Kakhovsky and, having read it, Seryozha was found and called by the journalist Aleksey Borisovich Ivanov, who was familiar from Rosa station.
The Espada club was not to everyone's liking, and the house management decided to evict the club from the occupied building under the guise of repairs. The club is visited by a commission of three people who behave very incorrectly towards children and the club leader Oleg Moskovkin. One day the club began to smash - take out inventory. Mitya, who was on guard at that time, called Seryozha, that one - Oleg, Oleg - the police. The policemen want to support Moskovkin and the guys, but they are presented with a document of the district executive committee authorizing the repair. However, the policeman requires that order be maintained and that the club’s property be handled with care. The pogromists, led by a certain Syronissky, demand an unlock of the wardroom. Moskovkin does not agree, citing the fact that he does not have a room for storing the property located there. Syronissky agrees to wait until Mitya, who is guarding the door of the wardroom, gets tired, to which he replies: “There are 48 of us. We can change in half an hour. All day long". However, then Oleg makes a decision: all the property is taken out through the window, and Oleg throws the key far away. The policeman apologizes for not being able to do anything against the official paper and advises contacting the newspaper.
Seryozha recalls that Alexey Borisovich, with whom he made friends, works in the newspaper. He goes to the editor and gets to Ivanov’s funeral - the journalist died. Seryozha is tormented by severe remorse that he did not bother to visit Alexei Borisovich, although he promised. After the funeral, Seryozha speaks with another journalist - Vladimir Matveevich Lartsev, thereby writing a note about him in the newspaper. Lartsev agrees to help the detachment.
Lartsev wrote a merciless article in support of Espada. Oleg was no longer blamed for the improper upbringing of children, but the premises could not be returned, because the commission concluded that it was disrepair. Having lost the club, Oleg lost his job as a manager. For an extramural student, this means losing a place in the university. Oleg makes a difficult decision to return to the boarding school in Red Beach and leaves, and the guys gradually get used to life without the Espada: without rulers, without shifts, without fees and training.
Once Stasik Grachev came running to Seryozha and said that the guys from Espada were fighting on swords - without helmets and bibs. Seryozha tells the guys that there are only 10 of them left and they have no right to neglect the laws of the detachment, which they themselves invented. Now all the rest are Flag Captains.
The brother of Aunt Gali, stepmother Seryozha, Vitaliy came to Kakhovsky. An archaeologist by profession, Uncle Vitya promises to take Seryozha, who is interested in archeology, to the excavations in Khersones in the summer. However, he does not like the straightforwardness of Sergei.
Dimka Solomin, drummer of Espada offers to enter the pioneer parade with a separate column of Espada. Seryozha promises to find out how this can be organized, goes to the district committee, but, without waiting for the secretary, leaves. At home, Uncle Victor explains to Sergey that everything they do is reminiscent of galvanizing a corpse. The next day, Seryozha tells Dimka that nothing happened. Dima is upset, and Seryozha is trying to drown his frustration in the joy of a quick trip to Sevastopol and Khersones .
One day Seryozha and Uncle Vitya went by trolley for tickets. A boy Sasha with a six-year-old sister rode there. One of the passengers unreasonably accused Sasha of taking the ticket at the box office without paying any money, grabbed the boy and dragged him to the box office. Seryozha tries to restrain himself, following the advice of Uncle Viti, who was shut off from the outside world by a magazine, but cannot. In the end, he gets up and says “Do not touch!”
Seryozha did not leave with Uncle Vitya in Sevastopol . But he was more fortunate - he went there with a friend at school and club Genka Medvedev, nicknamed Kuznechik, whose brother, Sasha, went to Sevastopol on a business trip. Seryozha and Genka were dissolving in happy serenity when drummer commander Danilka Vostretsov phoned and demanded to come urgently, as things began to get better: they found a movie camera to continue filming the film, an old boat from which to make a ship, the Legend club calls Espada to the competition.
The guys are ready to fly back tomorrow — for three thousand kilometers, but Genkin’s brother Sasha forbids: “You won’t go anywhere tomorrow” and adds “the day after tomorrow, captains, I will give you one more sea day with my commanding authority.”

Children's songs of M. Dunaevsky entered the television series in the recording of the Choir of the Song and Dance Ensemble named after Loktev Moscow City Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren together with the USSR Radio and Radio Orchestra.
Fate
Archival recordings of the television play, as well as other works of the Orlenok television studio, are considered lost, as they are absent both in the official file cabinet and archive of the State Television and Radio Fund , and in the movie storage [1] (inaccessible link) in Reutov.
According to some reports, the recordings of the television play were lost during the mass write-off and illegal sale of GTRF materials on the black archive market in the period 1989-1992 [1] .
Due to the great popularity of the television show in the 70s, there is a fairly high probability that its recording, however, was preserved in one of the archives of regional and national television studios - from the Baltic states to Ukraine, Belarus and Krasnoyarsk.
There is information that a full copy of the television movie was preserved in the video archive of the former Kazakhstan Republican Television of the USSR (Alma-Ata) [2] - now the video archive of the Republican Corporation “Television and Radio of Kazakhstan” [3] .
