"Karel Dorman" ( Dutch. Karel Doormanklasse ) - a type of frigate URO Netherlands Navy . They were designed as universal frigates, capable of both air defense and anti-submarine defense, and fight surface ships. From 1985 to 1995, eight ships of this type were built at the Koninklijke Schelde Groep shipyards in Vlissingen , replacing the Cortenar- type frigates as the main large surface warships of the Netherlands. All ships of the series were named in honor of the Dutch admirals and famous sailors. With the adoption of more modern frigates of the De Zeven Provinsien type , between 2004 and 2006, two Karel Dorman-type ships were sold to Chile , Belgium and Portugal , so as of early 2009, only two remained in service with the Netherlands a ship of this type.
