Trilogy History
According to the author, the idea of writing a story about one of the greatest conquerors of Asia haunted him for many years, but could only be realized when his “wanderings through the“ plain of the universe ”were replaced by wanderings through the pages of countless books” of the Lenin Library in Moscow. The author’s works were very relevant at the time of their appearance: the contract with the publishing house “Young Guard” for writing the first story was signed on August 20, 1934 - shortly after Hitler came to power in Germany , she came out in April 1939 four months before the start of World War II war , and the first, abridged for Detizdat version of the second book appeared a month before the start of World War II in May 1941 (the full version was published by the Goslitizdat in 1942).
Both books aroused great interest among readers, including at the front, and in April 1942 Vasily Yan was awarded the Stalin Prize of the first degree for the first of them, he was invited to collaborate as a publicist in print, on the radio and through personal meetings with readers. Once evacuated , Jan writes a new independent book that has many common characters and a parallel narrative with Genghis Khan - a fairy tale entitled “On the Wings of Courage”, but unlike the first book of the trilogy, the main focus here is not on the Mongol invaders, but on the heroic peoples and personalities fighting against the conquest of their homeland are shown these heroes idealized, such as “what they should be to become an ideal ”, as they remained in folk legends. Chapters from this book were published during the war in Russian, Uzbek and Turkmen languages, broadcast on the radio, it was planned to stage an opera and make a film on it, there were also plans to make a film on the Genghis Khan, as well as ready-made author’s scripts for them. But with the end of the war, the priorities and projects changed and remained so.
At the end of his life, the writer continued to work on the continuation of these stories - the novel “The Golden Horde and Alexander Bespokoyny (Nevsky)” was planned, later it was divided into two parts - “Youth of the commander” (published in 1952) and “Towards the“ Last Sea ”” (appeared in print after the death of the author in 1955). In 1961, as part of the collection “The Mystery of Kara-Nor Lake”, three chapters were published as short stories created in the late 1940s to be included in these novels - “The Return of Dreams”, “In the Eagle's Nest of the Elder Mountain” and “Good-for-fun ".
