Story
The plot is built according to the scheme "film in the film." Television director Pavel Prishvin ( Alexander Romantsov ) plays the role of captain of state security in the film about Stalinism , which takes place in 1949 . Prishvin himself decided to make a telecast about a group of television people who worked in the same 1949 . He studies archival materials, talks with living members of the group, trying to restore the events of forty years ago. His attention is drawn to the story of the mysterious death of one of the actors . Prishvin is conducting an investigation, suggesting that the NKVD is involved. But everything turned out to be much more prosaic. Just a colleague of the actor, jealous of his wife, put a stick from a mop into the sleeves of a fur coat for him, as a result of which he fell and froze in the cold.
The unusual name of the film, these strange "paper eyes" - are associated with the following story. Television announcers, when they read the news, had to lower their eyes from time to time, following the text. And then a letter came to the studio, which suggested that they put paper eyes on their eyelids, so that even when they read it seemed that they were watching the viewers. On the other hand, some critics see in the "paper eyes" a symbol of blindness [1] .
