The Moldavian miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos - an icon from the Moldavian skete of St. John the Forerunner on Athos .
According to legend, in 1863, Abbot Nifont of the Moldavian Skete , while in Moldova , wished to find a pious painter to order the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos for the monastery. In Iasi, he found an old artist, whom he asked to paint an icon alone and exclusively on an empty stomach. The painter began to work, but he could not manage to portray the face of the Mother of God and the Savior. On the advice of the monks, the artist began to fast and pray . According to legend, one day, after the morning prayer, he returned to the workshop and saw that the faces of the Virgin and the baby Jesus were depicted by themselves. Hearing about a miracle quickly spread among the believers, and the people began to gather to worship the holy image. Both Orthodox Christians and schismatics, Armenians and Jews came to worship the icon.
The Moldavian miraculous icon is celebrated on July 12 (25) .
