The image of Tabaluga was created by German rock musician Peter Muffai, composer of children's songs Rolf Zukowski and author Greg Rotalchalk. Artist Helme Heine came up with a hand-drawn character image that has not changed since then.
Tabaluga first appeared in the rock musical tale Tabaluga and the Journey to Prudence in 1983 . This first studio album was a great success. Subsequently, Helme Heine's books on the adventures of the little dragon and five music albums were continued - sequels (Tabaluga and Luminous Silence (1986), Tabaluga and Lilly (1993), Tabaluga and Presented Happiness (2003), Tabaluga and Signs time "(2011) and" Tabaluga: Long live friendship "(2015)). The album "Christmas with Tabaluga" (2007) also appeared as an album with carols. In addition, there were four concert tours "Tabaluga and Lilly" (1994), "Tabaluga and the gift of happiness" (2003), "Tabaluga and the signs of the time" (2012) and "Tabaluga: Long live the friendship" (2016), each of which was burned to DVDs. In September 1999, the premiere of the musical Tabaluga and Lilly was held at the Oberhausen Center Theater.
In 1996, the Australian animation studio "Yoram Gross Films Studio" (or "Yoram Gross-EM.-TV"), now known as "Flying Bark Productions", released a television animated series about the adventures of Tabaluga in collaboration with Germany, which was successfully broadcast in more than 100 countries of the world.
On the German television channel ZDF in 1997, the children's television show Tabaluga tivi was created, which has been broadcast for more than 10 years. To date, more than 500 programs of this show have appeared on the ZDF channel and the children's channel KI.KA.
December 6, 2018 in cinemas the premiere of the German full-length animated film Tabaluga (cartoon, 2018) (Tabaluga: der Film), based on the musical Tabaluga and Lilly, was premiered.
