Biography

Born on September 5, 1918 [1] in the village of First Kazanka, Shchigrovsky district, Kursk province [2] . In 1934 he graduated from 7 classes of school in his native village, in 1937 - 3 courses of the Kursk Railway Technical School [3] .

In the Navy of the USSR since October 1937. In 1940 he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School named after I. Stalin . From August 1940, he served as an instructor pilot in the 1st reserve squadron of the Air Force of the Baltic Fleet , since July 1941 - an instructor pilot in the 1st reserve regiment of the Naval Air Force (city of Saransk ) [3] . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1941.

The participant of the Great Patriotic War from March 1943 to May 1945. The entire combat path was part of the 46th Assault Air Regiment of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet. - Flight commander, squadron commander and flight training assistant and air combat commander of the regiment. He participated in the defense of the Arctic and in the Petsamo-Kirkenes offensive operation [3] .

By June 1944, completed 15 sorties, personally sank 1 transport, 1 patrol boat, 1 hunter boat and damaged 1 transport. The squadron under his command sank 4 vehicles, a self-propelled barge, 2 patrol ships, 3 boats and a motorboat, and also damaged 5 transports, 1 destroyer, 2 patrol ships and 1 boat. He inflicted heavy damage on the enemy also during the attacks of his airfields and troops on the front line. [four]

For courage and heroism shown in battles with the German fascist invaders, the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 22, 1944 was given the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [3] .

During the war, he made 21 combat missions on an Il-2 attack aircraft to attack enemy ships, ports and airfields, during which he personally sank 9 ships and ships, and also destroyed 2 enemy aircraft on the ground [3] . After being awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, he personally sank 2 more vehicles and 1 high-speed landing barge , for which he was introduced to the division commander for the title of twice Hero of the Soviet Union. [5] However, in the fleet headquarters, the award was replaced by the third Order of the Red Banner .

After the war, until August 1945, he continued to serve in the Air Force of the Northern Fleet as Assistant Commander of the Assault Aviation Regiment for Flight Training and Air Combat [3] . then went to school.

In November 1948 he graduated from the K. Ye. Voroshilov Naval Academy . From February 1949 he served as commander of the 68th mine-torpedo air regiment of the 8th Navy Air Force ( Baltic Sea ), and in May 1951 - October 1956 - commander of the 589th (March 1955 - 130th ) mine-torpedo air division fleet [3] .

In October 1958 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff . From January 1959 - Deputy, and in January 1960 - February 1961 - First Deputy Commander of the Air Force of the Black Sea Fleet . In February 1961 - August 1976 - Commander of the Air Force of the Baltic Fleet [3] .

In August 1976 - July 1980 - Deputy Head of the AA Grechko Naval Academy for Aviation, while simultaneously in August 1979 - July 1980 - Head of the Aviation Faculty of the Naval Academy. Since May 1981, Colonel-General Aviation S. A. Gulyaev has been in reserve [3] .

He was engaged in social work, was chairman of the Presidium of the Council of Veterans of the USSR Navy. He was elected a delegate to the XXIII and XXIV Congresses of the CPSU. From 1988, he worked as a research assistant and engineer at the St. Petersburg State Technical University [3] . Wrote a book of memoirs.

He lived in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg ). He died on April 3, 2000. He was buried at the Seraphim cemetery in St. Petersburg [3] .
