The Kirensky District was formed on June 28, 1926, from the Kirensk District of the Irkutsk Province . The center of the district was assigned the city of Kirensk . The district was divided into 5 districts:
- Kazachinsky district . Center - the village Kazachinskoe
- Makarov district . Center - the village of Makarov
- Transfiguration area . Center - Preobrazhenskoye village
- Ust-Kut district . Center - the village of Ust-Kut
- Chechuy district . Center - the village Chechuysk .
In 1929 Makarovsky, Preobrazhensky and Chechui district were merged into the new Kirensky district with the center in the city of Kirensk .
July 30, 1930 Kirensky District, like most of the rest of the districts of the USSR, was abolished. Its districts moved to the direct subordinate of the East-Siberian region .
The population of the district in 1926 was 49.2 thousand people. Of these, Russians are 97.4%.
