Break (snooker)

Break ( Eng. Snooker break ), or “series” - the total number of points earned by a snooker player as a result of successively hammering balls without breaking the rules , for one approach to the table for one frame (party). Thus, the minimum break value can be one [1] point, and the maximum - 147 points. Theoretically, in extremely rare cases, a break can be 148-155 points (see. Maximum break ).

Methodology

The implementation of a successful break is the theoretical basis for building a party in snooker. In most cases, the player tries to make the largest possible break in order to complete the game “in one set”. This is the most difficult, since the player must mentally imagine how the balls will be located on the table after the next hit, and bring the cue ball to a convenient position for the next hit. If after one ball the player does not score another, then the break is over.

Century Break

In case a player makes a series equal to 100 or more points, such a break is called a century break ( English break break or “hundredth series”). The performance of the hundredth series is an indicator of the high professional level of the game. The absolute champion in the number of hundred episodes is the five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan , in his account 1009 centimeters (on April 23, 2019). For players, it is especially honorable to get into the so-called “100+” list - a list of snooker players who have made 100 or more centimeters in their careers.

Maximum Break

In most cases, when a player makes a series of 147 points, such a break is called "maximum". The maximum break is the highest indicator of the professional level of the game, and is a particularly honorable achievement among the players. The performance of the maximum break in itself is a significant event in the tournament and / or season.

Records

  • Fastest Maximum Century Break - 5 minutes, 20 seconds ( Ronnie O'Sullivan ).
  • The maximum number of centrics in a match before 5 wins is 5 [2] ( Ronnie O'Sullivan , Northern Ireland Trophy 2007 ).
  • The maximum number of centrics in a match before 10 wins is 7 ( Stephen Hendry the final match of the 1994 UK championship against Ken Doherty ).
  • The maximum number of centrics in one tournament is 16 ( Stephen Hendry , 2002 World Cup ).
  • The maximum number of centrics in one season is 103 ( Neil Robertson , season 2013/2014 ).

Notes

  1. ↑ Although officially hitting one red ball is already considered a break, usually it is not considered as such.
  2. ↑ Including one maximum.
