Biography

Akim Gerasimovich Grachev was born on September 22, 1914 in a peasant family in the village of Gribovo, now Chkalovsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region. Russian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1940. Primary education. He worked as a veterinarian on a collective farm.

In the Red Army since 1936. In 1939 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. He distinguished himself in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-40.

The commander of the firing platoon of the 24th corps artillery regiment ( 7th Army , North-Western Front), candidate member of the CPSU (b) junior lieutenant Akim Grachev, January 27, 1940 received the task of destroying the pillbox at a dominant height. Despite the artillery shelling from the enemy’s side, the brave officer advanced the 152-mm gun to an open position and crushed the pillbox.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 21, 1940, "for exemplary performance of command missions on the front against the Finnish White Guard and courage and heroism shown at the same time", junior lieutenant Grachev Akim Gerasimovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal ” (No. 194).

At the front in World War II from September 1941, was the commander of the rocket artillery division. In 1945 he graduated from the Higher Artillery School. Until 1953, Lieutenant Colonel A. Grachev continued to serve in the Soviet Army.

After being transferred to the reserve, he lived and worked in the city of Chkalovsk, Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) region. He died on November 14, 1993 .
