  • It has immunity;
  • Appoints and dismisses the Prime Minister and other ministers;
  • Solves questions about the total number of ministers and the distribution of government functions between them;

  • Has the right of pardon and amnesty;
  • May grant pardon to ministers convicted by the Supreme Court of the Kingdom, only with the consent of the Folketing;
  • May directly or through the appropriate government bodies grant such privileges or establish such exemptions from the scope of application of laws that comply with the regulations in effect until June 5, 1849;
  • Has the right to dispose of the release into circulation of money in the manner prescribed by law;
  • Appoints civil servants who take the oath before the King;
  • May at any time issue a decree on the conduct of a new election, as a result of which a new composition of the Folketing will be formed;
  • May convene a meeting of the Folketing deputies ahead of the deadline (at 12 noon twelve weeks after the elections);
  • May ask the High Court of the Kingdom to consider cases on charges of crimes of other persons, if the crimes committed by them represent, in the King’s opinion, a particular danger to the state;

Entry into office

The king, before taking the throne, takes a solemn oath and signs it before the State Council, accepting the obligation to strictly abide by the Constitution. Two identical texts of the oath are signed, one of which is transferred to the Folketing and is stored in its archives, and the second is deposited in the State Archive. If the King is absent or for any other reason cannot sign the said oath just before taking the throne, the board until the signing of the oath shall be exercised by the Council of State unless otherwise provided by law. In the event that the King took the said oath as heir to the throne, he shall come to the throne immediately as soon as the throne becomes vacant.

Provisions regarding the exercise of royal authority in the case of minority, illness or absence of the King are established by law. If the throne is vacant and there is no heir apparent, the Folketing elects the King and determines the subsequent order of the succession to the throne.

Funding

The civil list of the King is determined for the entire time of his rule by law. The law also provides for a list of those castles, palaces and other objects of state property that are handed over to the King. Civil List should not be burdened with any debts.
