History

It was founded in 1898 as Waggonfabrik Uerdingen AG (with it. - “Urdingen Carriage Works”) in the city of Uerdingen (now Krefeld district). After the merger with the Düsseldorf Düsseldorfer Waggonfabrik plant in 1935, the company in Jürdingen continued to produce rolling stock for railways , and in Düsseldorf production of trams and light rail vehicles was concentrated.

Since 1981, officially bears the name Duewag.

In 1989, sold to Siemens and before the final dissolution in 2000, manufactured products under the brand name Siemens Duewag .

Products

Among the manufacturers of trams in West Germany, the company occupied a dominant position: most of the trams, purchased for operation in the Federal Republic of Germany after 1960 , were produced at Duewag enterprises or under license from the company.
