History

Dance rock and roll appeared in the mid-50s of the XX century. and was an impromptu dance. He became widely known in the wake of the popularity of the style of music and the appearance in the cinema of Elvis Presley, Bill Haley and other rock and roll pioneers.

The official birthday of dance rock and roll is considered to be April 13, 1954 - the day when a film with the participation of Bill Haley with his famous song " Rock Around the Clock " was released on the US screens. To the sounds of this melody, the audience first saw a pair of incendiary dance performances. Rock and roll, after the movie heroes, began to dance first in America, and then in Europe. Since the 60s, various independent competitions of rock and roll dance performers have been held. According to other Wikipedia data, on April 12, 1954, Bill Haley’s songs “Rock Around the Clock” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll”, which “played a decisive role in the mass popularity of rock and roll, which until then was only a musical experiment known to local listeners radio stations, ”were only just recorded for the first time.

In the early 70's there was an event that radically changed the whole subsequent history of the development of dance rock and roll. The Swiss choreographer Rene Sagarra combined specific rock and roll dance movements into a single finished ornament and, thus, prescribed the alphabet of modern rock and roll. This updated version was adopted by the German Dance Teachers Association, and since then rock and roll has become not just a disco dance, but a beautiful and challenging sport.

In 1974, four countries - Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland - founded the European Rock and Roll Association (ERRA). After some time, Austria, Holland, Denmark and Sweden joined it, and two years later, Canada, and the European Association has already become the World Association (WRRA).

However, in parallel, there was another international rock and roll organization - the World Jazz Dance Federation (FMDJ). In 1984, the two organizations merged to form the modern World Rock and Roll Confederation (WRRC) , the only organization to date that brings together acrobatic rock and roll athletes from around the world.

Currently, WRRC includes more than 35 countries, including Russia.

Acrobatic Rock and Roll in Russia

The development of acrobatic rock and roll in Russia began in Moscow, where in June 1986 the first section was opened at the Lokomotiv DSO, the first specialized rock and roll club was created, and the first official tournament was held in 1987. This period is inextricably linked with the name of Aleksey Borisovich Golev - a famous choreographer and organizer of the Moscow Rock and Roll Club.

Five-time world champions Ivan Yudin and Olga Sbitneva

Over the years, Russian acrobatic rock and roll has achieved the highest success. Today, Russia is one of the undisputed leaders of international competitions. Russian athletes have repeatedly become world champions and winners of world championships, owners of World Cups and Europe. The legendary couple Ivan Yudin and Olga Sbitneva are five-time acrobatic rock and roll world champions. Throughout the history of this sport, there is only one pair that outperformed them in the number of victories - six-time world champions, Italians Diego and Marcia Chiodoni.

Acrobatic rock and roll continues to develop actively in 8 federal districts and more than 30 regions of Russia. The country hosts more than a dozen different international and national competitions, the most prestigious of which are: World and European Championships, World and European Championships, World Masters, Championships, Championships and the Cup of Russia.

Since June 2014, the All-Russian Public Organization All-Russian Federation of Acrobatic Rock and Roll (RosFARR) has been headed by the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Moscow Alexey Olegovich Vorobyov.

RosFARR is accredited by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and is endowed with the status of an all-Russian sports federation in the acrobatic rock and roll sport. RosFARR operates throughout the Russian Federation and manages the development of acrobatic rock and roll as a sport at the federal level.

Dance Character

Acrobatic Rock and Roll Dance Movements

Acrobatic rock and roll is performed to rhythmic music (at a frequency of 46–52 beats per minute (192–204 beats per minute). The average duration of the dance program is one and a half minutes. The dance program in acrobatic rock and roll is characterized by a combination of characteristic leg movements and execution of acrobatic or semi-acrobatic elements.

The dance pattern of acrobatic rock'n'roll is based on the so-called “main competitive move”: the characteristic movements of the legs for half a beat “5-6” - this is kick - ball change and one beat “1-2-3-4” - it's kick - step kick - step music (kick - ball change - kick - step - kick - step).

Acrobatic elements are the decoration of the dance and are strictly regulated, in accordance with the complexity of the program and the class of performance.

Competition

By their nature, acrobatic rock and roll competitions are divided into personal and group.

Personal competitions

Competitions are held among sports couples consisting of a male partner and a female partner. Couples perform their dance programs to rhythmic music. Acrobatic and semi-acrobatic elements are performed in pairs in programs in accordance with the type of program and age discipline. The result of the performance is counted separately for each pair.

Group Competition

Competitions are held between Formation teams, the participants of which execute at the same time one general program, including rebuilding. The result is counted to the team as a whole. For group competitions, the Russian and international rules do not differ.

The Formation team program lasts about 3 minutes. Competitions are held for teams consisting only of girls or women, and for teams consisting of pairs of juniors or adults.

In this spectacular program, the most difficult flight acrobatic stunts are performed.

    Tricks

In competitions of various classes, the performance of acrobatic figures, or, as they say, tricks, is strictly regulated. Acrobatic elements in rock and roll are seen as a decoration of the dance, its emotional peaks.

However, over time, acrobatic stunts performed by athletes began to play an increasing role in sports shows and determining the winners. In rock and roll, tricks are valuable not in themselves, but in conjunction with dance. This situation fundamentally distinguishes acrobatic rock and roll from the performance of mixed couples in sports acrobatics. Another difference is the absence of balance elements in rock and roll, which is also associated with the need for a combination between acrobatics and active, dynamic dance. Stands and balances do not match the character of rock and roll. In addition, dancers perform on a hard floor, not on a soft gymnastic carpet, which increases the responsibility of athletes for the quality of stunts.

As an alternative to acrobatic rock and roll, you can consider the boogie-woogie dance that appeared in Europe in the second half of the 1940s based on lindy hop. Refers to swing dancing, performed to rock and roll and rockabilly. The closest to boogie-woogie are Lindy-hop dance styles and East Coast Swing, which is widespread in the USA.
