The Jewish History Museum in Amsterdam ( Netherlands. Joods Historisch Museum te Amsterdam ) is a museum of the history of the Jewish people located in Amsterdam .

The museum was created on May 23, 1930 under the name “Jewish Historical Museum Foundation” ( Stichting Joods Historisch Museum ) to collect and exhibit Jewish objects reflecting the life of the Jewish people in general and the Dutch community in particular. The museum was located in the medieval building of the Weight Chamber .

After the occupation by Nazi Germany, the museum was closed, and most of its collection was looted. Some of the museum exhibits were returned after the war.

After the restoration of the museum in 1955, most of its exposition is dedicated to the Holocaust - the Nazi persecution and extermination of the Dutch and German and Austrian Jews fleeing to Amsterdam. Since May 3, 1987, it has been located in the former Great Synagogue of the Dutch capital.

The museum has collected a large collection of paintings by Dutch Jewish artists and non-Jews, reflecting Jewish themes [1] . On November 20, 1971, Albert and Paula Salomon donated to the museum a large collection of paintings by their daughter Charlotte Salomon, who died in Auschwitz in October 1943. [2]

The museum has a number of permanent exhibits: “Religion”, “History of Jews in the Netherlands 1600-1900” and “History of Jews in the Netherlands 1900 - today” [1] .
