Story
Vasily Buslaev , who was planted by his mother in the barn on the slander of merchants, learns from a conversation of wanderers about the defeat and capture of the squad of Prince Gleb Polotsky. Gathering a team, Vasily goes from Novgorod in search of the prince. Gleb’s daughter, Ksenia, joins the team.
Warned that dashing people had started up on some island, Vasily associates landed on the island and defeats the robbers, but their leader orders to kidnap Ksenia, lures the team into the cave, heaps the entrance and leaves.
Basil gets out of the cave, catches up with the robbers, defeats them and finds out that Gleb and other Rusichs were sold into slavery in Constantinople and are located in stone quarries.
Having reached Byzantium , Vasily saves the life of Tsarigrad Princess Irina. Bazilevs invites Vasily to choose any reward, and Vasily asks to let the Russians go, giving back in return the treasures taken from the robbers. Bazileus claims that he is not in captivity.
In private conversation, Irina offers to kill Bazileus and take the throne, but Vasily refuses. Then the princess conveys the will of Bazileus - the prisoners will be released in case of victory in the tournament, and at the same time sends the killer, with whom, however, Vasily dealt with.
Having won the tournament with the help of Ksenia, Vasily Buslaev frees the captives and finds Prince Gleb Polotsky. The dying prince predicts the advent to Russia of a hitherto unknown disaster. On the way back, Vasily and Ksenia were fired upon by the advanced detachment of nomads, but returned safely to Veliky Novgorod.
Upon his return, Vasily calls for preparing to repel the invasion of an unknown people. During the wedding of Vasily and Ksenia, the merchants decide to water him, however, Buslaev, warned by the holy fool, forces the merchant Okulov, his main hater, to drink the potion.
At the end of the feast, Vasily calls for the battle of all those who disagree with him. Merchants attack in the morning, Vasily and his team in response crack down on the Novgorod squad and merchant militia. In the midst of the battle, Filka is killed, after which news comes of an attack on Russia. News brings together opponents. Vasily Buslaev, at the head of the army, defends his native land.
