European Ice Hockey Championship 1926

The 1926 European Ice Hockey Championship under the auspices of LIHG was held from January 11 to 19, 1926 in Davos ( Switzerland ). For the first time, 9 teams participated in the tournament, who played 25 matches, which broke all records. For the first time in its history, the Swiss national team became the champion. This Swiss victory was sensational, because before this tournament this team won only one official match - against the Spanish team . Despite this, an increase in the championship level was noted, especially in terms of the defensive actions of the teams [1] .

The Polish national team first participated in the European Championships. She took sixth place, defeating the Belgian team in the fight for this place. The Poles became the second revelation of the tournament after the Swiss. Hockey players of the Polish team noted good skating and proper reading of the game [1] .

Due to the large number of participants, the championship was held according to a complex draw system. For the first time, preliminary rounds were held in three groups, including three teams each. The winners of the groups directly qualified for the final group, and the teams who finished second in the groups played the fourth place in the final round. Among the teams that took third places, there was a struggle for reaching the match for 6th place, which also included the team that finished last in matches for 4-6 places.
