Kataev wrote the script and took an active part in the work on the film. He approved the screenings, went to Odessa to clarify the shooting locations, talked about the incidents that he had witnessed thirty years ago, in general, he was the director’s chief adviser.

Story
The events described in this work took place in Odessa in 1905, shortly after the uprising on the battleship "Potemkin" . And in the picture, these real historical events are shown from the point of view of two boys - Petit and Gavrik. Together with them, the viewer is in the thick of what is happening.
