There are many parks on the river, in particular, one of the largest city parks in the USA - Guadalupe River Park .

Periodically, the river overflows and floods the central part of the city of San Jose ; after the floods of 1995 and 1997, a flood protection plan was developed for a period of 100 years. The largest flood occurred in 1955, when Guadalupe flooded 3359 hectares .
