Biography

Boris Ekimov was born in the town of Igarka, Krasnoyarsk Territory, in a family of employees. He worked as a turner, locksmith, adjuster, electrician at the factory, a builder in the Tyumen region and in Kazakhstan, a labor teacher in a rural school.

As a prose writer debuted in 1965 . In 1976 he was admitted to the Union of Writers of Russia , and in 1979 he graduated from the Higher Literary Courses.

For his many years of writing Boris Yekimov has created more than 200 works. It is published in the most popular literary publications: “ Our Contemporary ”, “ Banner ”, “ New World ”, “Niva Tsaritsynskaya”, “Russia”. The most noticeable interest of the readership was caused by the publications of B. Yekimov during the “perestroika” years at the peak of the circulation of “thick editions”: collections of short stories “For Warm Bread”, “Night of Healing”, novel “Parental Home”, novel / short story “Shepherd's Star” .

Boris Yekimov is often called the "conductor of the literary traditions of the Don region."

Dmitry Shevarov, columnist for the newspaper Trud: “Anyone who has read at least one story by Yekimov must have remembered the writer. And although all his heroes are residents of Zadonsk farms, everyone will say: this is about us, about me. About our life - alarming, shattered. By the power of talent and love, the writer carefully collects these fragments into a story that I think will remain in Russian literature for a long time as an honest testimony of everything that we have experienced in the last 20 years. ”

The works of Boris Ekimov were translated into English, Spanish, Italian, German, French and other languages. His story "Shepherd's Star" is included in the Presidential Library - a series of books by outstanding works of Russian authors.

Boris Ekimov is a member of the boards of the Union of Writers of the RSFSR (from 1985 to 1991) and the Union of Writers of Russia (since 1994). He was a member of the editorial board of the weekly Literary Russia (since 1987). Member of the editorial boards of the journals " Fatherland ", "Roman-newspaper" (since 1998). Member of the Commission on State Prizes under the President of the Russian Federation (since 1997). He was a member of the jury of the Booker Prize (1997).

Boris Ekimov lives, as he often says, “in two houses”: in Volgograd and Kalach-on-Don . He is an honorary citizen of the city of Kalach-on-Don [1] .

In 2008, he was awarded the Solzhenitsyn Prize , on the occasion of which Alexander Solzhenitsyn himself wrote:

In many vivid stories and essays, Ekimov paints a little-familiar atmosphere of the current countryside with its new way of life, alluring opportunities and steep threats. This live stream of Ekimov’s paintings, spreading our ideas about the difficult life of today's village, helps to restore, at least mentally, the unity of the national body [2] .
