Story

Julie Powell ( Amy Adams ) is an aspiring writer working as a call center operator at Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s , the center of assistance to victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks . Together with her husband, an editor by profession, she moves to a new place to be closer to work, capturing several cookbooks. One of them is the famous book by Julia Child ( Meryl Streep ) “ Mastering the art of French cuisine ”. One day at dinner in a restaurant, looking at her successful girlfriends, Julie realizes that she herself is all too simple. And she decides to blog, in order to distract from work and do what she likes - cooking, and at the same time attract regular readers. Julia’s blog begins to describe her life and the goal she set for herself: to cook 524 dishes from the book of Julia Child for the year, “risking her marriage and the cat’s well-being”.

At the same time, the film shows the 1940s – 1950s , when Julia Child and her husband Paul , a diplomat , live in Paris under suspicion from Senator Joseph McCarthy of complicity with the Communists. The beginning of the culinary career of Julia herself.

The director carefully emphasizes the similarities in solving the problems of the “gray days” of public servants that Julie and Julia face. Both women get support from their husbands, although at some point Julie Powell's husband breaks down from excessive loyalty to such a hobby and leaves her for a few days.

Ultimately, Julie's blog is written in The New York Times, and finally, she receives the well-deserved attention of journalists, literary agents and publishers, as well as a disparaging review from Julia Child - “Oh, it's a waste of time,” she would say . After the book is released, the final scene is shown, where Julie celebrates a happy event with her husband.
