The Femina Prize ( French: Prix Femina ) is a French literary award established in 1904 by 22 employees of the magazine Happy Life (now Femina), headed by Anna de Noai . According to the founders, Femina was supposed to be an alternative to the exclusively "male" Goncourt Prize . The jury includes only women, currently among them - the historian Mona Ozuf , Daniel Salnav , Chantal Toma . The prize for the best work of French literature in poetry or prose is awarded annually on the first Wednesday of November at the Parisian Crillon hotel .
In 2016, the award was received by Marcus Malt for the novel “ Le Garçon ”, a stream describing the events from 1908 to 1938 from the point of view of an unnamed boy growing up. The work received 7 votes against three in the novel by Natasha Appan's Tropique de la violence [1] .
Since 1985, the Femin Prize has also been awarded to a foreign author , and since 1999, the Femin Prize for an essay .
