Biography
Born in Lima in an aristocratic family. Nicholas's father was of English descent. He studied at the Anglo-Peruvian school, received his higher education at the military school Chorillos. Lindley made an excellent career in the armed forces of Peru, in 1960 he became commander of the ground forces.
On July 18, 1962, Lindley, together with Ricardo Perez Godoy , organized a military coup against the legitimately elected President Manuel Prado , who had only 10 days left until the end of his presidency. The coup was organized by him in order to prevent the unwanted Manuel Audria from power, who would most likely be elected by Congress due to the alliance with de la Torre .
After the coup, a junta was organized with Ricardo Perez Godoy at the head, the purpose of which was to hold new free elections. But Ricardo Perez showed a desire to stay in power longer and not hold elections. Nicholas Lindley, on March 3, 1963, organized a coup against him and led Peru himself, after which he held general free elections, in which Fernando Belaunde won.
From 1964 to 1975, Lindley served as Ambassador of Peru to Spain , then retired from politics. He died in 1995 at the age of 87.
