The Maki, BRM and Sertis teams did not take part in this Grand Prix, while Hill and Ensign exhibited just one car each. Lella Lombardi moved to the Williams, and in the Lotus, Brian Henton replaced Jim Crawford. Jacques Laffitte did not start the race: on the eve of his eyes got cleansing fluid and the pilot experienced vision problems. Nicky Lauda won the pole, led from start to finish and won his fifth victory of the season.
