や
や in hiragana and ヤ in katakana are symbols of the Japanese kana , used to record exactly one mora . In the Polivanov system, it is recorded in Cyrillic: “I,” in the international phonetic alphabet, the sound is recorded: / ja /. In modern Japanese, it is in thirty-sixth place in the syllabic alphabet .
Origin
や and ヤ appeared as a result of simplified writing of kanji也.
