The super giant skiing event for women at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held on February 20 .

The competition took place in Whistler Creekside from 10:00 to 11:45 local time ( UTC-8 ). 53 skiers from 27 countries howled at the start, 38 athletes managed to get to the finish line (71.7% of the start). Air temperature at the start is + 2.8 ° С, at the finish line + 5.9 ° С. Sunny, snow on the track rammed.

All three winners of the 2006 Olympic Games in this discipline ( Michaela Dorfmeister , Yanitsa Kostelich and Alexandra Meissnitzer ) completed their careers and did not perform in Vancouver.

Launched first, Julia Mankuso made a mistake in the lower part of the track, but for a long time kept the first result, until Maria Riesch , Elizabeth Görgl and Lindsay Vonn , who started sequentially starting with 12, 16 and 17 numbers, kept her behind the first result. Vonn, who won the majority of the World Cup competitions in the super giant in the 2009/2010 season, and who had previously won gold in downhill skiing, went the course without errors and counted on gold after the finish. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old Andrea Fischbacher , who started at number 19, won 0.74 seconds against Vonn, and at number 22, Tina Maze moved Vonn to third place. Starting at number 30, the last in the group of the strongest, Johanna Schnarf , was ahead of Vonn's schedule, but at the bottom of the track she lost to her and took fourth place.

Fischbacher brought Austria the first gold medal in alpine skiing at the Vancouver Olympics. The Americans were not left without awards in the fifth consecutive ski discipline since the start of the Olympics, they won 7 of the 15 medals played by then. The Mase medal was the first silver medal at the Winter Olympics in the history of Slovenia (before that, the Slovenes had only 5 bronze awards). For Fischbacher and Maze this is also the first Olympic medal.
