The women's alpine skiing competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held on February 18th . Starts were originally scheduled for February 14, but were delayed for several days due to bad weather.

Competitions were held at Whistler Creekside . First, downhill at 9:30 local time, and then at 12:30 - one attempt in slalom (4 years ago in Turin 2 attempts were made in slalom). The competition was attended by 34 athletes from 19 countries. 4 athletes each represented Austria and the USA, 3 skiers came from Switzerland. Air temperature during downhill -4 ... 0 ° С, during slalom + 4 ... + 5 ° С. Sunny, snow on the track is dense.

The downhill in the standings of the combination began less than 20 hours after the end of the downhill , in which the medals were played the day before, February 17 . The downhill skiing track in the offset of the super combination is approximately 20% shorter than the “clean” downhill skiing track (the starting gates were moved below).

The 2006 Olympic champion in this discipline, Croat Janitsa Kostelic ended her career and did not perform. The winner of the Turin bronze, Swede Anya Persona, went to the start, despite a serious fall the day before on the downhill. Yanitsa Kostelich before the start of the competition in an interview with the Eurosport channel named Anna Persona, Tina Mase , Lindsey Vonn and Maria Rish among the favorites.

Competition Progress

Lindsey Vonn, like the day before, won the downhill, silver medalist Julia Mancuso this time showed the third time.

According to the results of slalom, the Czech leader Sharka Zagrobskaya was in the lead for a long time, showing as a result the absolutely best time in slalom, then Katrin Zettel was ahead of her. The person, having shown the 6th pure time in slalom, was in the lead up to the start of the top three according to the results of downhill. Julia Mancuso, who since 2007 did not get into the top three at the World Cup stages in the super combination, managed to get ahead of the Person by 11 hundredths and secure a second medal in Vancouver after silver in the downhill. Maria Rish, who had almost a half-second superiority over Mancuso following the results of downhill, confidently increased her advantage, which amounted to 0.94 seconds. The last among the strongest started Lindsay Vonn. After completing 2/3 of the distance, the American lost 0.51 seconds to Rish in slalom and 0.18 seconds in total, and could claim at least silver, but less than 15 seconds before the finish, Vonn hooked her ski on one of the racks and left the track from for the fall.

As a result, Maria Risch became the second German after Katie Seitzinger in 1998 in Nagano , who won the combination / super combination at the Olympic Games. Mancuso won her second consecutive silver award in Vancouver. Anya Persona, repeating her “bronze result” of Turin, became the third in the history of skiing, who managed to win 6 Olympic awards. On her account 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze awards. Croatian Janitsa Kostelich has the same number of medals (4 gold and 2 silver), and Norwegian Chetil Andre Omodt has 8 awards (4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze). The only discipline in which Parson has not yet won the Olympic awards is the super giant.
