Name Origin
It was named at the beginning of the 20th century by the tract of Luzhniki and the village of Luzhnikovo [1] [2] located in this area (according to other sources - in 1923 ) [3] . Previously, parts of the embankment were called the Vorobyovskaya and Novodevichy embankments [1] .
History and Modernity
The embankment initially passed approximately to the place where the central berth of the stadium is now located. There was a transport across the Moscow River to the Vorobyovy Gory . At the beginning of the embankment, small industrial enterprises arose, including the colorful factory of F. Bayer (later the Soyuz factory ). In 1926, the embankment, like all Luzhniki, suffered from flooding.
In the early 1950s, Vorobyovskaya (on the left bank) and part of the Novodevichy embankment entered the embankment [4] .
In 1956, during the construction of the Central Stadium. The entire Lenin embankment was lined with granite and landscaped. In 1958, a two-tier Luzhnetsk metro bridge with the Vorobyovy Gory metro station was built over the embankment.
In 2005-2007, on the territory of the Soyuz and Geliymash factories , it was planned to build a multifunctional complex of medium floors with an area of ββ350 thousand mΒ² βThird Romeβ (entertainment centers, a shopping area, a hotel, office premises, apartments, cafes, restaurants, shops, children's and sports grounds, artificial pond with a fountain, boulevard, square). The share of apartments is 249 thousand mΒ², the share of offices is 43 thousand mΒ². The number of storeys of buildings will gradually decrease in the direction of the river from 12 to 5. The development project was demonstrated at the Expo-Real exhibition in Munich in October 2007 . [5] [6] [7] . However, this project was not implemented, the territory of the plants are leased for office and storage facilities.
